“You said your sister, Nyah, is here, on Earth, have you ever looked for her?”

“Every time I'm here.”

He opened a door. “This used to be her bedroom. Everything’s the color blue.

“It’s her favorite color.” He said pointing to a wall with a large oil painting of his sister.

“Yes, the room is large, but how could I have missed such a large thing like that, yesterday when I was in here?”  Erica wondered to herself.  Ignoring the question, she focused back on being with Octavious.

“Octavious, she's beautiful!”

But why did she look so familiar to her...?” She loudly thought. -And then, it hit her! She's the lady she saw in the mirror!

“Oh -sweet- Deity!” Octavious voice stagger. Pushing Erica out of the way before the picture of Nyah crashed on her head.

“Thanks.” She said, standing to her feet.

“Woah...” They voiced in unison.

“Look at that! Its, a stairwell...”

“Wonder where it leads to?”

“I don't know. But if we're gonna go, we better take this.” Octavious took the Protectors Pendant out of his pocket.

Eyes darting around the room, Erica picked up a long bamboo stick she'd seen mounted over Nyah's bed.

“Good thinking.” Octavious approved.

“So far so good!” Climbing the steps, it felt they were going up and down them at the same time.

“Look, a door!”

Weapons ready, Octavious turned open the door.

“Greetings, brother, and welcome to Earth!

“Greetings, and welcome to Earth!  Although I know, my brother, that you’ve been a devoted visitor for quite some time now.  It’s a shame we had to cross paths like this; I was planning more so of a formal engagement for the two of us, perhaps on the night of the Akasha Gala, so that no one could notice me and my followers,” his sister Nyah said as several shadowy figures emerged from the background and revealed themselves in the burning light.

“As you can see, my dear, sweet brother, I have a menagerie of followers willing and ready to rise up ANYTIME and overthrow mother’s throne,” she said with ambitious pride.  “There is just one thing…”

“What’s that?”  Octavious asked.

“We need you, Erica, and that she-bear notebook of hers too.”

Barging in, Erica shouted: “You're the lady in the mirror I've seen!”

“Yes.” Nyah smiled. “You were sixteen when I introduced myself to you. I've waited so long to meet, and now the time has come.”

“-Come for what?” Erica questioned.

Reaching for an old book off a black shelf, she opened to a marked page. Eying Octavious curiously, she continued. “You and my brother make quite a pair.” She said with a giggle.

“You know what, before we get into this, brother, why don’t you stay down here so we can catch up on old times.  And as for Erica, my servants are on their way now, to cater to her. She looks as though she could use a good sprucing up. Is that okay with you, brother?”

Turning to Erica, he asked; “Are you okay with it, baby?”

“No, it’s cool, I don’t mind!” She answered excitedly, overjoyed for him to finally see his sister again. “I do look a bit rough; maybe a little r and r is just what I need.” She said while combing her hair back with her fingers.

By this time, the two females stood around Erica. It looked as though they were examining her, as they frizzled and tugged at her hair. One of the girls had a stack of fashion magazines in her hand and was feverishly flipping through the pages, pointing out things to Erica. Words were shared between the three and they began to laugh as they all whisked away down the stoned hall, towards a lavish solar greenhouse.

Octavious shook his head and laughed at the girls and Nyah smiled.

-“Those girls and their obsession with makeovers.” She said. “Don’t worry brother, she is in good hands her, I assure you this.”

“Thank you, sister.”

Looking around, Octavious liked what he saw. “Nice digs! This house is awesome.  Love how you’ve decorated everything with a black slate rock. And the red carpet, hey, nice touch. If I’m not mistaking, I think this bachelor pad of a house belongs to me!”  He laughed. “How’d you afford something like this?”

“I found it!” She said boastfully.

“You found it? How, do you just up and find a house?”

“Well, umm, aren’t you familiar with the Deity story…?” She asked, letting the question hang in the air until he figured out the mystery.

“Noo, way, are you really serious?” He asked impressed.

Nyah held her head up high and extended her hands to the ceiling as she walked around with confidant pride. “Ahh, yes, my dear sweet brother, this is the underground layer to which they lived.”

“How’d you find it? Weren’t you a little scared they might come back or something? I mean what about ghosts and stuff?”

“I knew I’d be okay because what happened to them was ages ago. Besides, I have a good spirit and so do my followers. We are followers of Integrity and honor and respect Him the way you and Erica do. He wouldn’t allow anything to happen to us, brother, this I know.”

“WOW, you are my sister.” He gave her another huge hug and smiled.

Hours passed before Nyah and Octavious family reunion was pleasantly interrupted by the two servant girls from earlier.

“Excuse us, but we would proudly like to present to you Octavious, the new and improved Erica!”

At those words, a transformed Erica rounded down the stone stairwell in a black gown. Her face was painted and adorned with blue stones. As for her hair, it was placed beautifully into a style that somehow resembled a butterfly.  Her skin possessed a low glowing undertone.  She seemed to uphold a sense of maturity and responsibility on her tender shoulders.  Her eyes were focused on Octavious as if awaiting his approval. Erica looked priceless.

In complete amazement over such delicate yet strong beauty, Octavious grew dizzy.

Pleased by his reaction, Nyah continued.  “I see that your eyes have become engorged with delight, my dear brother. It pleases me to see you happy!”

“Thank you, sister.”

“You two lovebirds go on upstairs, and have some time to yourselves! That side of the house has been devoted to you, so please; feel free to roam about up there! When supper is ready, I’ll come up to inform you personally.

“Erica, you look AmAZing!”

“Thank you, Octavious,” she said, but this time without blushing like she normally would have.

“You’ve changed.”

“Yes, I know, but it’s for the better!  I’ve found my destiny, I’ve found my calling.” She said with a bubbly voice.

“So, they told you, huh?”

“You’re the Icon!” he shouted in exciting revelation.  “You’re the one like it said in a book I read.  It said that someone truly in the heart would be the ultimate decision-maker when the time came for the two worlds to open up and reveal their true face and place all cards upon the deck.”

He continued, but his eyes lowered and filled with gloom. “I bet they didn’t tell you this part though. There’s is one thing that must be accomplished before either side could fulfill the promise…”

“And what’s that?” she asked, already anticipating the answer.

“Death.”  Octavious paused.  “The Icon must choose a side then sacrifice her own life to open the portal of The Old Kingdom and usher in the old rule, which means that the time of pure peace and equality would be once again restored between both worlds, Akasha and Earth as well.

As he showed her a page from a book to prove his point, Erica’s heart sank. “Why didn’t your sister reveal this part of my calling to me…?”  Erica looked sickly bewildered.

“Nyah said that she felt that I should be the one to break the news with you.”

“Oh…”

Putting the book down on an oversized cream leather couch, he questioned Erica’s decision again in a heavy voice filled with uncertainty “Are you sure of this? Do you really want to do this?”

“Yes.”

Placing a hand around his neck to loosen a kink, he raised his eyes to the brown egg shelled colored ceiling for a brief moment trying to back the tears before motioning towards Erica. Praying inside that when he looked into her eyes he wouldn’t fined the reason which compelled her to such a convictive answer.

“Erica.” Octavious said so low it almost went unheard. “Baby, bae-, this is hard for me, but if this is what you want, then I’m going to have to have you show it to me this time around because my, my faith for Integrity is on the line-all in accordance with you. I, I’m scared for us… I knew that when I first laid eyes on you, my life was never going to be the same again; and now that the time has come for taking a real stand all in the name of Integrity, I now find myself straddling the line…

Such compassion Erica held in her eyes as she tilted her head slightly, tuning in to what Octavious had to say. Feeling firm in her decision, she held steady as she took in the moment to which felt like forever.

Crouching before Erica, her hands in his, Octavious tried to refrain from crying as he sniffed the tears back hard. Erica felt his sorrow grow stronger and it weakened her; pulling her involuntarily to her knees.

“Octavious, I, I love you.” She whispered truly.

“And I love you too.” His arms slid down her small frame and he kissed her hard and tender. Erica returned the kiss equally.

The fireplace on the opposite side of the entry door ignited the instant they kissed and the drop lights dimmed out as if acknowledging the presents of natural light. Octavious face and hands grew warm them uncomfortably hot to the touch but Erica didn’t release from the embrace.

He looked at her as the yellow light from the flames displayed the beautiful color of Erica’s eyes.  Now ready for the answer he stared into her face as saw the pupils in her eyes widen as she stood there motionless; now merely becoming a temporary portal for Octavious to engage and experience her life at a glance.

He saw images of her from the moment she was birth into the world and when the nurse placed her into the arms of her mother. After that point, her saw celebrated birthdays, days when she just frolicked in a field of deep green grass, as if in bliss to be underneath the rays of Integrity.

A glimpse of Erica alone in a grey room, sitting in a corner, knees pressed to her chest as she rocked slowly; silent tears spilled down her face, splashing on a pastel yellow paper with blue scribbles and check marks on it.

Octavious wanted to see what was written on the long piece of paper that apparently grieved her. As if Erica could read his thoughts, the scene he was viewing became clearer for him to see. Bigger and bigger as if someone was pressing the magnify button on a computer to enlarge the image; the words became focused. It stated that The Institute of the Gifted had rejected Erica’s application for enrolment based on facts that her physiological evaluation came back to them saying that her thoughts weren’t congruent with the rest of the students in the Astrology class to which she applied. And that her fascination for Integrity need only be considered as a sport and researching Integrity “in hopes of finding a deeper meaning so that truth could be revealed” was absurd.

Having seen enough; the timeline of imagery speed up to Erica’s sixteenth birthday, revealing to Octavious everything that went on that day and once again slowing down on the part there when Erica was looking at the mirror and seeing another girl inside that mirror looking back.

Then suddenly, the girl in the mirror made a double of herself, and like paint peeling from an old house, the girl in the mirror separated from the image of herself that Erica was still looking at and walked completely out of the mirror wearing a misleading look on her face as she stepped forward to Octavious speaking seductively her face dangerously close to his: “I know you can see me.” That was all she said before walking back into the mirror.

Erica was breaking from the trance and Octavious felt like everything around him was getting regurgitated himself included as he was being brought back into reality.

“Woah! That was, was incredible Erica. How were you able to do that?”

“We connected; truly.”

Astonished, Octavious asked; “Do you really think this was the real connection that my mother and father once shared and like how the Deities were capable of having?”

“Possibly.”

Thinking about the girl in the mirror he had encountered he asked Erica; “Did you see the girl in the mirror?”

“Huh, what girl? Do you mean Nyah?”

“Umm, it wasn’t Nyah.” He spoke uncertainly.

“No, Octavious, I didn’t see any in any mirror.”

He didn’t want to think about what he experienced, the whole thing shook him to the core. After seeing that, he decided to ask Erica one final question about her decision. “So are you still willing to take this step?” -Trying hard to hold back the tears, he remaining quiet so that she could make the critical decision on her own.

She answered, “Yes.”

Respecting her wishes, he put all his grief into focus and continued, “It’s obvious my sister is up to something and needs us to make it work.  Now, if it has anything to do with bringing back The Old Kingdom, then Erica, baby, you can best believe I’m all for it.  But I honestly don’t think that this will be as easy as it seems from that book we just read.”
