“OH MY GOSH!  Octavious, WAKE UP!  It's eight forty-five, we’re late for school!”

“Huh?  What?  What’s going on?  Wait, we overslept, I’m still here?  I’m still here?”

“Yes, and we better get going.”

“What am I gonna wear?  I can’t be seen wearing the same clothes I had on yesterday.  You know, I have an image to protect, plus I’m a senior.  But you wouldn’t know a thing about that now would you, junior?”

Playfully rolling her eyes and holding her hand in his face gesturing for him to stop, she replied, “Whatever. My brother still has some old clothes in his room from when he came home from college to visit.  Come with me, his room is this way.”

**

Standing in front of a mirror, Octavious examined himself long and hard.  Turning from one side to the next. “Ugh…did your brother happen to leave anything else around that you can think of?”

“Uh, maybe.  Let me check in the basement.”

As she was about to leave the room, Octavious whispered, “Erica, Erica, that’s okay, I don’t want your mom getting suspicious.”

“That’s right.  Thanks, guess I kind of forgot.  You know what, try looking under his bed!  As messy as my brother was, I know he would have been way too lazy to even want to begin to clean underneath there.  He offered to pay me sixty dollars if I cleaned up the rest of the junk in here once he finally left.”

“Did you do it?”

“Not yet,” she said, grinning big, “but thankfully, he paid in advance.”

“Yeah, I can tell, unless you’re terrible at cleaning like your brother.”

“Oh, shut up!” she laughed.

While Octavious rummaged through unknown territory, Erica warned him to beware of the possibility of stumbling across a rat or something of that nature.  It was all in fun.

“Found something!” he whispered in a shout as his head hit the bed frame.  “Ow!”

Giggling, Erica went over to see what he had found and rubbed the top of his head.

It was a blouse made of black, silky material with all sorts of metallic colors sprayed all over it.  It looked like it could have been a replica of some kind of fine art.  The way Octavious put the pieces of her brother’s remnants together was awesome.  It looked like an outfit that had been specially designed exclusively for him.  Erica admired a guy who knew how to dress.

“What time is it?” he asked.

“Um, about twelve after nine.”

“Go get dressed! I’ll wait in here.”

“I’ve got my stuff over there.  Just turn around so I can change.  No, don’t stand there!”  Erica laughed as he moved away from the mirror.  “Young man, go stand in the corner and don’t turn around until I say I’m finished.”

“Okay, I’m ready!”

“Dang, girl, you looking too good!”

“Thanks.  I gotta go in my room, come on.”

“Closing the door behind her, Octavious watched as she applied makeup ever so lightly.”

“You know you really don’t need that.”

“Huh?”

“I said you don’t need it…Guess it explains where you got that eye shadow from that day, huh?  It was from Akasha, right? Only they can make colors as awesome as that.  And they can put it on anything, not just makeup.  I wouldn’t be surprised if they used magic or something.”

“Yeah, I know what you mean; our colors are more vivid than earth’s.”

“We better go, Erica.  I don’t want to be too late.”

“Climbing out of her side bedroom window, Erica realized that she could just drive her brother’s forbidden junk car to school.

**

“I’m going to need you to push the car while I steer, please.  I can’t have mom hear me using this.”

“Is it really that serious?!”

“Yeah.  My brother and mom really go ballistic after finding out I drove it.”

Erica put the car in neutral and steered. Octavious pushed.  The car rolled out smoothly into the street.  Not knowing how far to push, he continued until Erica blew the horn lightly at the corner, right before the stop sign.

“Okay, thanks.  Stay here and watch the car.  I have to go back and pull down the garage door because if we use the remote, it makes a loud noise when it’s closing. Be right back.”

She was glad her mother decided not to have the garage attached to the house.  That came in handy.

On the driver’s side, Octavious sat. “I’ll drive,” he volunteered.

All of their effort to quietly sneak off was in vain for her mother was already gone.
