A shadow emerged from the corner of the dimly lit room.  Laying on the floor in one of the family rooms, unaware, Octavious feverishly flipped through the pages of her notebook as the flames from the huge fireplace danced around, giving off plenty of light. 

Unaware that someone was slowly creeping up behind him, he continued turning pages, still hesitant about reading that page filled with what he assumed to be a ‘Dear John’ letter.

“You’ve gotten too involved with this girl!” bellowed out a woman’s voice. “I trusted you, Octavious, to do one simple task!  That was to simply not go probing your nose around in mature affairs, and you couldn’t even do that!” his mother hissed.  “What do you want from me?!” she questioned him candidly. 

Puzzled over the question, Octavious proceeded by asking “What do you mean, what do I want from you?”

Quickly avoiding the question, she continued hissing, “Haven’t your father and I given you enough?!  Aren’t you happy to be amongst the elite of the wealthy, with endless servants, guards to flaunt for all to see?  Rich, poor, there are only two classes, and you choose to act as if you are second-rate, in your thoughts and in your actions!”

“Mother, I’m sorry!”  Octavious quickly pleaded, still unaware of what exactly he was sorry for. Nothing could have prepared him though for what would come next.

“I know you’ve been teleporting from this world to the next, and I know a spell to make you quit!”

With no time to run for cover, Octavious cried out in rage as his own mother extended her finger and projected a spell:

Portal doors open 

and portal doors close.

I take from you 

power to run through those!

A gush of wind came from the fireplace, encircling and lifting Octavious off of the floor.  His mother moved her hand in circles, causing Octavious to spin in the air, recklessly, faster and faster.  Then, with a cold flick of her wrist, she sent her son into the stone wall.

“MOTHER, NOOOO!” he cried, realizing that there was no stopping her and bracing himself for the worst.

“AAAAHHH!”  Right into the wall he went.

His head felt like it was in knots, loudly pounding, pulsating to the rhythm of the dancing flames. Bloody nosed and emotionally broken, Octavious rose to his feet in time to see his mother storming off with the she-bear book. 

“Mother, no. No!” he demanded, but it was no use.

In disgust, she turned and looked at him.  “This is what you want?!” she mischievously asked with a dirty, dirty snarl, turning to walk towards the fireplace, holding the notebook between her fingertips, pages angling out as the book swung loosely.

Without hesitation, Octavious charged at his mother at full speed, yelling in anger from a broken heart.

“AHHHHHHHH!  AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!”

She quickly stepped out the way, for she had seen just how serious her son was about the notebook.  Carelessly dropping it to the cold floor, she whispered some final words before parting.

Octavious, my dear, sweet Octavious.  Tisk, tisk, tisk… though you are my son, I will not let anything or anyone stand in the way of this great triumph that is steadily approaching upon us.  I love you, my son, which is why I warn you once more to keep your nose out of my business and to keep away from this girl.  It’s apparent you no longer want any part in this, and the thought pains me deeply.  As Governess of this world, I must continue to follow suit and pursue the plans that have been set in motion for hundreds of years and us not continuing means the possibility of our nation’s extinction—so I won’t tolerate interferences!  

After she made her exit, Octavious knew he had to get back to Erica.
