Slowly sitting back down on the edge of the bed, Octavious sighed, “Huh, Erica, we need to talk.” Not knowing where and how to start, he became entangled in a complex web of thoughts.
Octavious, what’s wrong?
“Wait.” Patting the bed, he encouraged her to sit beside him. “Come sit next to me, you’re gonna need to sit down for this.”
Not knowing what to expect, she abided, for this was the first time she’d ever seen him so serious.
Wasting no time, he delved right into it without hesitation.
“Remember what happened back at school in the bathroom?”
“Yeah. With the water and stuff?”
“Well, that was real,” he stated.
“I know,” Erica cordially responded. Not wanting to reveal to him that she was in a dream world and would soon be leaving him or that it was only a matter of time before she’d wake and all of this would end. She assumed that the potion she had taken was just lasting longer than usual.
“Mmm-hmm,” Octavious said, shaking his head. “Baby girl, I don’t think you’re getting it. What happened there was for real; but here, where we are, right now, wasn’t supposed to happen.”
“What do you mean wasn’t supposed to happen?”
“Well, here goes nothing,” he sighed. Erica, there’s something special about me. I can time travel to different worlds when I sleep.”
Her mouth hung open.
“I know. I know this sounds crazy, but I swear on Integrity that what I’m saying is the real deal.”
”Integrity?!” Tell me you just did not say ‘Integrity’? Did you just say ‘Integrity’?!”
“Yeah, and might I add that though that name may not be of importance to you, it means a great deal to me, so swearing on Integrity isn’t something I take lightly,” he confessed with conviction.
Baffled, she sat in disbelief as she took in what he avowed. She knew that this was the real, for no one spoke of Integrity with such reverence except a few back in her land of Akasha.
Wanting to be sure of this revelation, she commenced asking Octavious some rapid questions.
“What do you mean by saying ‘Integrity’?
He simply answered, “The Sun.”
“The Sun?”
“-Yeah, that big star in the sky. That gigantic, bright, radiant mass of light that you see every day that shines and makes it what we call ‘daylight’, Daylight. And you know it sets too,” he sarcastically threw in.
“This isn’t some sort of joke is it?”
“No,” he replied, holding her hand and locking eyes. “Erica, this is the land of Akasha, this is the place in which I really reside. This isn’t a dream, this is real, and you’re in it because I brought you here.”
“Erica, Look here let me show you something.”
“You brought me here…? Stunned, she repeated the question, eyes squinting, “but how?” The thought had dawned on her and a girly smile spread across her face, blushing.
He pushed himself off the bed to further explain. “Now, this is the bizarre part, it’s is the part I’m tripping over…” Searching his pockets, he pulled out the Protectors’ Pendant, held it in front of her face, and in the other hand, he held a lighter. Purposely flicking the lighter so that a large flame shot out, he hung the pendant over the flame.
“Noo!” She shot up, eyes widening as she lurched to grab for it.
“Ot! ot! Ahh, nooo, noo, you’re not getting this!” he said, quickly snatching the pendant back, wagging his hand in her face shaking his head as she barely missed pulling the pendant from him.
“So, I see you know about this huh…? Want to tell me what you were doing with it because, by that baffled expression on your face, you have something to tell me.”
Tossing the pendant on the bed where Erica now laid, he waited for the silence to break.
“You were honest with me, and so I’ll be truthful with you, but before I start, maybe you should sit down.”
“Maybe you should join me. He sat on the floor extending his hand.”
Sliding off the bed to accompany him, she began. “I too am from the land of Akasha, and I too time travel in my dreams, but I thought no one else could. When I went to the other world, it was like having my own secret paradise, but now I’m realizing that this dream world was far from being just that.”
“How were you able to get there, what did you do?” he asked.
“When I was a little girl, I would have a hard time getting to sleep, and as I grew older, it changed from that to nightmares and me not wanting to sleep. I thought that maybe it was a phase or something that many people went through. There were days when sleep came to be easy, but—”
Octavious interrupted. “So, you mean to say that, all this time, you’ve been living off of five hours of sleep?” he joked. “You know I’m just speaking figuratively, right?”
“Yeah, I know, it wasn’t quite as dramatic as I explained to you either.” She smiled.
“What I want to know is how in the hell did you land in the other world then?”
“On my sixteenth birthday, I wished to become the Sun.”
“The SUN?! That’s what you wasted your birthday wish on?”
Feeling a little embarrassed, Erica covered her face and held her head down.
“Aw, come on, girl, what’s with the rosy cheeks? I mean I’m like so totally jealous of you. How could I not have wished for something like that?”
“Are you making fun of me mister?”
“Of course not. Please, continue.”
“Okay, under one condition.”
“And what’s that?”
“That we get something to eat! I’m very hungry and I pray that you, Octavious, are capable of leading me towards the direction where you dine.”
“Ha, that sounds good to me, but under one condition.”
“And that might be…?”
“You can’t be seen. My parents will flip out if they find out about you!”
“Why, because they’d assume you brought a girl into your room?” she teased.
“No and yes, I guess,” he answered, staring at the floor. “It’s just that, huh, if they see you, and I mean you in particular, they may want to destroy you. Literally.”
